Pirates Crowned Champions

Saturday, October 21st, 1989: It was a storybook year for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they closed out a 4-2 series win over the Oakland Athletics to claim the 1989 World Series. They wrapped it up with a 3-1 victory to cap an incredible season and brought home their 6th championship.
The Pirates manager gave his view of the series, "We had a lot of things going for us, offense and defense doing it at the right time. That's what it takes to win a World Series."
"We're disappointed we lost, but we're also very proud of what we did all year," said the Athletics manager. "They played better baseball than us and they beat us."
During the National Eastern Division regular season Pittsburgh put up a 96-66 record and finished first.
